Fried tempeh is so common in Indonesia and you can find it almost anywhere. On the street, food court or even at home. Wether you eat it just like that, or with sambal terasi, tempeh is always be a comfort food for (almost) everyone.
Personally, I like to fried tempeh whenever I have leftovers and kept it in the freezer fried instead of raw. To me, keeping fried tempeh in freezer tasted better than making fried tempeh from frozen raw tempeh. It might be just me, but some of my friends said the same thing.
My Mauritian's husband never tasted tempeh before he met me and when he tried it for the first time, he just couldn't stop munching (until now). It just gone within seconds.
I've mentioned fried tempeh in most of my recipes but I forgot that none of it talking about how I fried my tempeh.
There are many ways of frying tempeh. I chose the simplest way. Cheers ~~
Ingredients
Raw tempeh, sliced
Garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
A little water
Cooking method
1. Prepare the marinate sauce by mixing water, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Dip the tempeh into this sauce. Don't leave your tempeh in this marinated sauce too long as it makes tempeh goes bad quickly.
2. Prepare wok with hot oil (enough to cover the bottom of tempeh as I prefer to not deep-fried it).
3. Lower the fire to medium and start putting the pre-cut tempeh inside. Remember to put it in slowly.
4. Once it gets golden brown, turn it around and cook at the other side. It will take sometime to fried it. If the oil goes to hot, it will make the tempeh gets burn before it cooks in the inside.
